AARC Learn to Scull Program (LTS)
 
 
 
Sculling is a form of rowing in which the rower holds two oars.  Sculling is typically done in smaller boats of one to two people, who navigate the water without a coxswain.  
 
 
Requirements
  • Sign Rowing Waiver
  • Register and pay (see link below)
  • Minimum age must be entering 9 – 12 grade
  • Must be able to carry a single scull weighing 40-50 lbs unassisted
  • Must be able to turn their heads to look over shoulder in both directions
  • Swimming Abilities (need to attest that you can swim if you are over 18 and if younger need to pass swim test)

What to expect
 
Instructors will demonstrate basic proper technique geared to teach participants to use single and double scull shells. Participants will learn the sculling rowing stroke and how to safely maneuver sculling equipment unassisted both on land and in the water. Additional instruction on how to re-enter capsized craft from the water will be provided.
 
  
2017 Sessions and Registration
 
Sessions take place Saturday and Sunday from 9:30am-1:30pm. Each class can accommodate 6 scullers. A 30 minute break is scheduled each day. Please bring extra water and a snack.

Rowing after LTS
 
LTS graduates become AARC Novice members in the year they graduate (the membership runs through the end of October). You are invited to join our Club Sculling Program and continue gaining physical fitness and sculling skills through technique-focused coaching. If you transition directly from LTS to Club Sculling, monthly Club Sculling rowing fees apply after your first month.
 
 
 
 

AARC endeavors to make rowing accessible to the broad community.  Scholarships are available to those with financial need to support participation.
